We check compliance with tests a) and b) on five unused screwless terminals of socket-outlets.

Both tests use new copper conductors.

a) We load the screwless terminals for 1 hour with the alternating current from Table 10. We connect 1-meter-long rigid solid conductors with the cross-sectional area from that table.

Each clamping unit gets tested.

During the test, the current only goes through the terminals, not the socket-outlet. Right after this, we measure the voltage drop across each screwless terminal while the rated current is flowing.

The voltage drop must not go over 15 mV.

We take these measurements as close as we can to where the terminal makes contact.

If you can't get to the back of the terminal, the manufacturer can get the samples ready. Just be careful not to mess with how the terminals act.

Make sure nothing moves too much—not the wires or the stuff you're using to measure—while you're testing and measuring.

b) Next, we test the same screwless terminals that we used in test a).

We send a current through them that matches the test current in table 10.

Don't move anything, including the wires, until you're done measuring the voltage drop.

The terminals go through 192 temperature cycles. Each cycle lasts about an hour:

– The current is on for about 30 minutes.

– Then, the current is off for about 30 minutes.

We measure the voltage drop in each terminal like we did in test a), every 24 cycles, and again after all 192 cycles.

The voltage drop can't be more than 22.5 mV or twice what it was after the 24th cycle, whichever is lower.

After the test, just take a look, no magnifying glasses needed. You shouldn't see anything that would stop you from using them, like cracks or bends.

Plus, we do the mechanical strength test from section 12.3.10 again, and everything should pass.
